Welcome to the Shot Spot! Here you will find selected photos and videos from my library. In my tiny corner of the blogosphere (is this really a word?) I plan to post photos/video/commentary of shots I've taken related to nature, architecture, travel, live performance, portraits, etc. I hope you will find the site interesting and fun. Your comments are welcome. Stay tuned. Regards, Mike D (Photo-Selene sitting serenely on a glassy pond at a nearby park)

I've been a Pentax user since the 1970's. First with the Spotmatic SLR's and then into their DSLR products. I did dabble with Nikon in the early stages of the digital revolution but realized I preferred the photos from the Pentax and returned the Nikon. I am using what is called "Prosumer" level cameras and not the high dollar equipment. From what I've read and seen you can achieve some awesome results without spending thousands of dollars. Tailor you equipment to meet your needs and your pocketbook. If you want to do fashion shoots or weddings do some reading and see what it might take. If you plan to make a living or money as a photographer invest in your "business." The real money needs to be spent on the best glass you can afford. There are several online shops that sell used or refurbed lenses and bodies. B&H Photo and Adorama are two of the best along with Amazon and EBay are good places to start your research. I'm still awaiting the much anticipated Pentax (Ricoh) Full Frame DSLR that was due out about now but has been delayed until spring 2016. It is designed to be able to adapt to APS-C lenses as well as full frame, which means all my glass will be viable from the gitgo. In other words it will save me money. More about the Pentax FF when I believe it actually exists. This has been a dream, then a rumor and now a promise. I just hope it doesn't turn out to be a fantasy.
The photos posted here range from theater performance to travel to a series I started some years ago featuring abandoned wooden structures called "The Forgotten." It will take me a bit of time to formulate the structure of the Shot Spot and the blog as a whole. I've got some ideas and have to figure out how to present them in the blogger format.
Well, back to the drawing board. Talk soon.
